Sewn-in hair extensions can be painful to add to the hair, as they involve sewing the extensions into tight braids along your scalp. Bonded hair extensions are virtually painless, as they involve gluing the tracks of hair to your natural hair with a hair glue that is not water soluble. When you are done with your extensions, you'll need to use a specialty solvent, along with materials from your kitchen, to successfully remove the hair glue from your natural hair, and restore your natural look.

Step 1

Mix together 1 cup of olive oil with a 1/2 cup of warm water. Gently comb the mixture through your hair so that it is completely saturated. This will protect the hair from the drying effects of the hair glue remover.

Step 2

Apply the glue to the tracks of hair, where they are bonded. For most women, this is right at the crown and scalp of the head. Saturate the tracks thoroughly so that the glue remover can penetrate the glue and you won't need to pull or pick at it. If your hair glue did not come with remover, you can check your drugstore for products like Hair Essence Hair Bonding Glue Remover, which is sold separately from the glue.

Step 3

Allow the glue remover to sit on hair for at least 20 minutes. Give the end of one of the extensions a small tug. If it doesn't slide of easily, wait another 10 minutes. They should come out easily, without pulling. Slide all of the extensions out and set them aside.

Step 4

Shampoo and condition your hair immediately after removing extensions. Use a wide tooth comb to distribute a rich conditioner from root to tip to combat the drying effects of both the glue and the glue remover.
