Salmon is a flavorful fish option that pairs well with a wide variety of herbs and spices. Farm-raised salmon are raised in Atlantic waters and are fed processed food, which is what gives them their vivid pink color. These fish are usually fresh because they move from the farm to the market quite quickly, making them a tasty choice for your favorite salmon recipe. Farm-raised salmon are versatile, so you can use one of several preparation methods.

Baking

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and place your salmon inside. Sprinkle your farm-raised salmon with your favorite dried herbs and spices, such as garlic powder, rosemary, sage, black pepper or parsley. Bake the salmon for 25 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork. Transfer to plates and serve with fresh lemon wedges, if desired.

Grilling

In a large marinating dish, combine 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/8 cup white vinegar and your favorite herbs and spices, such as black pepper, thyme, ground mustard or cumin. Marinate your farm-raised salmon for two to four hours. Preheat your outdoor grill to medium-hot. Remove the salmon from the marinade and wrap in aluminum foil. Place your salmon on the grate, close the lid and grill for 30 minutes or until it flakes easily with a fork. Serve your salmon with a variety of grilled vegetables for a nutritious and tasty meal.

Broiling

Place your salmon on a broiler pan that you have sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Season your farm-raised salmon any way you prefer. Use two or three dried herbs and spices, such as rosemary, turmeric or oregano, to create a flavorful fish. Preheat your broiler. When hot, place the broiler pan into your oven. Broil the salmon, without turning it, for 10 minutes. Check to see if the salmon flakes easily with a fork. If not, broil for two to three more minutes. Keep your eye on your salmon because it can burn quickly under your broiler. Serve with steamed vegetables.

Suggested Uses

Any way you cook your farm-raised salmon can complement the flavor of many different recipes. Add cooked salmon to a Caesar salad for a boost of protein and a bold flavor. Replace tuna with farm-raised salmon for an alternative to a traditional tuna salad sandwich. Add cooked salmon to a pasta salad or seafood soup to add a burst of flavor. Combine cooked salmon with breadcrumbs and a beaten egg to make salmon patties to replace traditional hamburger patties.
