Many people prefer natural remedies for some types of health conditions. For some kinds of pain, golden raisins and apple cider vinegar prove effective in treating the problem without having to take medication. Both products are easy to find and inexpensive, making them worth trying. Talk with your doctor before self-medicating with apple cider vinegar or golden raisins.

Golden Raisins

Golden raisins show promise at alleviating the joint pain associated with arthritis. Treating pain in your joints involves reducing inflammation, making golden raisins an option. This is because the grapes used to make this type of raisin contain resveratrol and catechins, both of which work to fight inflammation. The most common way to eat golden raisins for arthritis pain is to soak them in gin for one week. Gin contains juniper berries, which also contain anti-inflammatory properties. Chris Kilham, ethnobotany professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, recommends eating 10 gin-soaked golden raisins per day for arthritis pain.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Vinegar has many uses, many of them medicinal. Apple cider vinegar may provide relief from neck, back, shoulder and joint pain. One benefit to using it for pain is that it works by ingesting it as well as applying to the affected area. According to Regina M. LaTourrette, MS, RD, a patient she saw regularly for arthritis rubbed apple cider vinegar on painful areas and reported that she saw positive results within a few weeks. This is likely to due to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in the apples used to create the vinegar. For some people, apple cider vinegar works to ease the pain associated with heartburn as well. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water and a drizzle of honey and drink the mixture each day.

Combining

While the amount of gin that a golden raisin soaks up is small, some people may prefer not to use alcohol as part of their pain treatment. In this case, soaking golden raisins in apple cider vinegar is a good alternative. Cover the raisins with two parts apple cider vinegar and one part honey, which works to take away the bitter flavor of the vinegar. Eat ten vinegar-soaked raisins each day.

Considerations

Despite the potential to treat some types of pain, using apple cider vinegar or golden raisins shouldn't replace any traditional forms of treatment recommended by your doctor. Keeping a symptom log allows your doctor to determine if apple cider vinegar or golden raisins work for your pain. Record how much of each item you consume and any changes in the level of pain you experience afterward.
