Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that uses fine crystals to buff the surface of the skin to reduce signs of aging. After having this procedure performed, some people may experience some irritation. There are several options that can be used to soothe this condition.

Sunscreen

It is important to use a sunscreen on your face after having microdermabrasion done because the procedure leaves your skin more sensitive to the sun’s damaging rays.

Copper Peptides

Some dermatologists follow up a microdermabrasion treatment with a lotion containing copper peptides to soothe and nourish the skin.

Moisturizer

A rich, soothing moisturizer should be applied to the skin following microdermabrasion. There are several brands available at department and drug stores that are specifically designed to soothe and calm irritated skin.

Aloe Vera

Alcohol-free aloe vera lotion reduces redness and irritation on skin.

Foundation

It is recommended that following the procedure patients avoid wearing foundation for a 24-hour period. Even foundations that contain sunscreen are not recommended.
