1. Go Climb a Mountain
Mountain climbing is a challenging and fun sport for both men and women. Getting started is not hard. There is some basic equipment to purchase in order to get started. This equipment includes rock shoes, a harness, a 10.5-millimeter dynamic rope, three locking carabiners, a belay device, five D-shaped binders, webbing and assorted chocks.
2. Train to be a Mountain Climber
Before you begin mountain climbing, you will need to find a good mountain climbing teacher or a good mountain-climbing class. It is important that you work with someone who is experienced because there are a lot of different techniques and skills that one must know and accomplish before attempting to actual mountain climb. The training may take time. The most important thing that you will learn in your class is to never climb alone.
3. Dress the Part
All mountain climbers must be ready for anything. Therefore, they should always wear clothes that are going to protect them in every way. All mountain climbers must wear a helmet to protect their head from falling rock or to protect it from bumps and bangs. Special rock climbing shoes are also a good idea. These shoes have a special non-slip sole, they're thin and light which will help you climb much easier. Many mountain climbers will also wear a jacket because many times it will get colder as you increase in altitude. A jacket will also protect your from wind and rain.
4. Mountain Climbing Injuries--RICE
Mountain climbing requires exceptional muscle strength. Therefore, many mountain climbers will experience muscle strains and sprains. Most of these sprains will be located in the wrists, hands, ankles, feet and back. If you experience muscle sprains from mountain climbing, just remember to RICE to treat them: R=rest, I=ice, C=compression (wrap the injured site), and E=elevation. With RICE, your muscles will be like new in no time.
5. Be Cautious When Cold-Weather Climbing
Mountain climbing in the winter is more dangerous than mountain climbing in the spring and summer months. If you are a beginner, you may not want to mountain climb in the winter until you are more experienced. Ice climbing is the most difficult and most dangerous form of mountain climbing and is hard to avoid during the winter.
