1. Layer Your Food

According to research scientists at Columbia University, the body digests food in the order in which you eat it. The Natural Hygiene Diet uses this information to determine in which order you should eat food. According to this diet program, you should layer your food and begin each meal with a natural vegetable juice like carrot or tomato juice. Follow this with a tossed salad with little or no dressing before eating the most complex portion of your meal like meat or cheese.

2. Create Cellulite Reduction

The Natural Hygiene Diet can help to remove built up toxins, such as cellulite, from your body. Changes in the way you process food allows more nutrients to enter your body, which helps your body to break down cellulite and other diet resistant fat. As these toxins leave, your tissue becomes stronger and healthier. This diet plan also reduces your salt intake, which increases water retention and helps cellulite develop.

3. Monitor Your Portion Sizes

When you first begin this diet, you'll experience natural weight loss without reducing calories or increasing exercise. On average, people lose 10 to 40 pounds just by layering their food. Once the initial weight loss ends, adjust your portion sizes to fit your current level of activity and calorie needs. Otherwise, you'll gain the weight back regardless of the order in which you eat your food. A food scale or prepackaged meals may help you to maintain portion size. As a rule of thumb, portions should be no larger than your fist.

4. Eat Whole Foods

A primary principles of the Natural Hygiene diet includes eating foods in their natural or whole state. For example, whole grains work with the diet, but wheat germ, a part of whole grain, irritates your system. Some people recommend eating a strictly vegetarian diet while others allow low fat or lean meat. Most practitioners recommend fresh vegetables and meat rather than canned or frozen foods.

5. Don't Cold Turkey Your Turkey

People who eat meat as their only source of protein should not cut meat out of their diet without careful consideration. Changing your eating habits so drastically may cause digestion problems or complications like nausea or light-headedness. The extreme change may be hard to maintain without proper preparation and allowing time to transition to the new style of eating.
