1. The Badminton Court
There are several badminton laws regarding the court where the game is played. They are very specific about the shape of the court and the markings on the court. The size of the badminton court should be a rectangle shape that is marked with either yellow or white lines that are approximately 40 mm in width. The laws are also very specific about the net. It must be placed at a height of 5 feet, 1 inch and should be made of a dark colored mesh. The top of the net should be taped or marked with a white strip that stretches across the length of the net.
2. The Badminton Equipment
The shuttle must contain 16 feathers attached at the base. Each feather must be between 2 1/2 inches to 2 3/4 inches long and be rounded at the tip. A non-feather shuttle can also be used if desired. The entire shuttle must weigh between 4.75 grams and 5.50 grams. The racket also has specific laws that it must follow. The overall length of the badminton racket should not exceed 11 3/8 inches. The hitting surface has to be a flat weave of crossed strings and no device can be used that alters the racket in any way.
3. The Game Laws
There are many laws regarding the playing rules of the game. Each team must consist of two players on each side of the net. Single matches can also be played. A coin toss prior to beginning each game determines who has the first serve of the shuttle. In men's single play, the first team to reach 15 points wins the game, and in women's singles, the first team to reach 11 points wins the game. Players switch ends half way through the game. The overall win is determined by who wins the best out of three games.
4. Faults and Gaming Errors
During a game of badminton, it is possible for a player to commit a fault. A fault is when a player steps out of the allowed boundary lines or the shuttle falls in one of the areas that is considered a fault zone. When one team faults in badminton, the serve is passed over to the opposing team.
5. Know All the Laws
If you are playing professionally or for a team, it is recommended that you know the laws and policies about playing well. Knowing these laws will assure that your game is played correctly and it increases your odds of winning the match.
