1. Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Women with mustaches are typically not accepted in polite society. Many women with dark skin grow hair in places such as the face and want to remove it without creating the stubble of shaving. Other women may avoid using razors on any part of their bodies. A depilatory is a chemical, which dissolves hair, making it loose enough to wipe off. Depilatories come in cream, lotion, gel and roll-on applications.
2. Use Safely
Certain cream hair removers are created for different parts of the body. Depilatories made for the legs, for example are usually stronger than removers created for the face or the bikini area skin. Specific directions call for the creams to sit and do their work for limited time periods. Never leave the cream hair removers on for longer than recommended, since the chemicals can burn the skin, especially on tender or sensitive areas. Test a new product on a small spot of skin before lathering all over to check for allergic reactions.
3. Shave it Off
If every time you use an over-the-counter chemical depilatory you break out in a rash, you are probably allergic to one of the ingredients. Shaving or bleaching might be a better alternative for you. Shaving creams and lotions with natural ingredients such as aloe can soften the hair and leave the skin smoother after a blade passes over it. Some homeopathic practitioners whip up a depilatory with herbs such as aloe, black cohosh, white oak and linseed. These formulas are very mild and may not work for people with deep roots and darker hair follicles.
4. Itch Relief
Chemical depilatories can leave your skin raw and itchy. Scratching will only agitate the skin even more. Instead, use cool water presses and lotion to relieve itching. Skin discoloration is another side effect that can occur after long-term chemical use on the skin. Expect a strong odor while wearing the creams too. However, hair grows back in less than a week after using a chemical depilatory. You will either have to live with the peach fuzz as it grows back or use the cream again.
5. Red and Rough
Chemical hair removers have gotten more sophisticated and can be easier on your skin than a bad shave. Try a few different brands until you find one that doesn't leave your skin red and raw. Look for depilatories with added aloe and other soothing ingredients. Use the creams included with the product to rub in after the hair is removed. Also buy a separate neutralizing afterwash product to remove all traces of hair remover chemicals from your skin to avoid irritation. Give yourself at least a day before a special occasion for your hairless skin to return to normal.
