1. Motocross on Horseback

It is the most exhilarating part of horse riding. Gain points for riding over the obstacles in the fastest time and lose points for falls, hitting obstacles and time to complete the course. All the riders go out at the same time and race across a wide variety of terrain, navigating obstacles as they appear. Cross country eventing is a true test of your riding skills.
2. Safety First!

Check all your equipment thoroughly, cleaning and repairing any worn ties, fasteners and lacing. Check your helmet for dents and make sure you have quick release stirrups. These stirrups come with an elastic band on the outside that releases with pressure from your foot. Get new gloves to protect your hands and make sure your hair under your helmet. Pack a first aid kit for the horse and rider.
3. The Course
All events will have the course posted before the event for your review. Arrive early enough that you can ride the course before the event. Make sure that you have trained for all the types of obstacles that you will need to face and complete a proper warm up. The day of the event is very exciting with a lot of activity, so it is important to take the time to prepare properly so that you can enjoy the day and achieve your best possible result.
4. 3-Day Eventing
Three-day eventing is a combination of dressage, show jumping and cross country eventing. These events are very similar to military trials to showcase all the horse riding skills necessary for the cavalry. It is by far the most demanding of all equestrian events, requiring skill and endurance from both the horse and the rider. Competing in a 3-day event requires advance preparation, lodging for the horse and rider and a large assortment of gear, tack and clothes.
5. Competition
Eventing is an Olympic level sport, with many trials and pre-trials available to attend. There are also a wide variety of events held at lower levels, for the amateur rider. Within each event, there are at least five different classes, based on the different levels of riding experience. Before entering an event, attend as a spectator, or act as a groom for another rider. The experience is unlike any other type of equestrian competition. Try it and you just may find this is the place for you!
