Your debit card, while linked to your bank account, probably also has a credit card logo on the front of it. This logo denotes that your debit card is also linked to a credit card company, and you can use it as such in order to get the same protection or points that you would with your usual credit card. Using your debit cards as credit cards is a simple process and only entails pressing a different button when you swipe a card.
Cashier Entry
Step 1
Wait for the cashier to tell you what the total price of your purchase is. Look for a customer-operated keypad for debit and credit cards. If you don't see one, hand it to the cashier.
Step 2
Let the cashier know that you'd like to run the card as credit. He'll press a different button so that the amount is subtracted from your credit card rather than from your debit card.
Step 3
Wait for the cashier to print the receipt, and then sign the receipt in the same way that it is signed on the back of your debit card. You may also need to show a piece of photo identification so that the cashier can verify your credit card purchase.
Customer Entry
Step 1
Look for the keypad, which is usually located somewhere near the cash register. Wait for your purchases to go through, and then swipe your card through the keypad.
Step 2
Choose "Credit" from the list of options on how to pay. If the keypad jumps straight to the entering of the PIN number, press the "Cancel" key to change the purchase to a credit card payment.
Step 3
Sign the keypad and press "Enter," or wait for the receipt to be printed off and sign the bottom of it. You may have to provide photo identification to the cashier in order to verify the credit card purchase since the entering of a secret PIN number is not involved.
Online
Step 1
Follow the checkout prompts on the commercial website so that you are able to go to the "Payment" screen. Choose "Credit" as the type of payment you'd like to make.
Step 2
Choose the type of credit card that your debit card can act as. Look for the logo on the front of the card if you are unsure of what type it is.
Step 3
Enter the credit card number as shown on the front of the card. Add the expiration date and the identification code found on the back of the credit card, if necessary.
Step 4
Submit the purchase. The proper amount will then be deducted from your credit card.
