Weight Watchers has been synonymous with weight loss for more than 40 years. Using an approach that places a premium on healthy weight loss has been at the heart of all Weight Watchers' programs.
Features
The primary tool of Weight Watchers rests in what are called Points. More than 25,000 different foods are assigned a point value based on the amount of calories they contain, as well as their fat and fiber content.
Significance
Each Weight Watchers participant is given a daily Points Target and may eat foods with point values that equal the daily target.
Benefits
One thing that separates Weight Watchers from many different diet plans is that people are free to eat whatever foods they choose. The plan is to not exceed the daily limit of points.
Considerations
When the daily Points Target is chosen, not only are a person's age, sex, height and weight taken into consideration, but the amount of physical activity the person gets daily is factored into the equation. A person who gets more exercise will be allowed to consume more points.
Treats
Weight Watchers participants are given a weekly points allowance, which gives people the opportunity to bend the rules a little with a treat without giving up on their weight-loss ambitions.
