Free Yourself

If what you seek is freedom--freedom from distress, freedom from disease, freedom to choose what is right for you, then you must take responsibility for the outcome. Freedom equals responsibility and responsibility equals freedom, either way you look at it, it's still up to you.

In my practice, people often come to me looking for the "magic formula" that will give them a "quick fix" to whatever ails them. As such, and even though I really don't believe in such a thing as a "magic formula," I have paradoxically and ironically created one that puts the power to "fix it" back in it's users hands. So here it is, by popular demand, Dr. Cindy's Magic Formula--it's as easy as 1-2-3:

Conscious Self Awareness + Responsible Choice = The Outcome You Want

First, you need to reconnect to, and get to know yourself again. So many of us have our attention focused outward towards other people, places, situations and things that we have lost conscious contact with what's going on within us. I suggest you begin the process of learning about, then applying the basic skills of mindfulness. The regular practice of mindfulness, or conscious self awareness, will help you rediscover who you really are. With this awareness you can begin to identify what you really think and feel, and therefore, what you really want.

Many of us lost conscious contact with who we really are because we were so busy trying to meet the demands of others or are constantly seeking approval from others; while trying to validate our own worth, we became not only entangled, but stuck in an endless trap of people pleasing--everyone else that is, except ourselves. You would be amazed at how many people have no idea what they really think, feel or want when I ask them, instead choosing to focus on, and tell me, what they think other people want from them--or put another way, what they want from other people. As such, I have found that the quickest and perhaps easiest way to help you identify what you want is to begin by having you list what you do NOT want. That's right!

Let's start with what comes easiest for most people to do in this regard. Just take out a piece of paper, draw a vertical line down the center, and on the left side begin listing all your "don't wants." Once you have completed this part, the rest is very simple! On the right of your paper just list the exact opposite of what you don't want....and voowaaahhhlaaah! There you have it! What you DO want, on the "right side" of your piece of paper!

Once you reconnect to what is right for you, you can begin to identify all the variety of options available to you to achieve the outcomes you want. The key here is to choose wisely, then act responsibly. You may want to consult with others, perhaps experts in whatever areas that may apply to your desired outcomes; but once you have identified what it may take to get what you want, you must take responsibility for taking steps, or action, in whatever direction appears right for you.

Responsible choice, based on what you want and followed by right action, this is your final step.

So there you have it. My "Magic Formula" for getting what you want. It's all about conscious self awareness plus responsible choice, followed by right action. When you know who you are, what you think, and what you feel, then you know what you want, as well as what you need to do in order to get it. It may or may not be a "quick fix," but it can and will work for you, if you choose to work it.
