How to Remove Sunless Tanners

Sunless tanner products provide consumers with a healthier way to achieve the highly desirable sun-glow. Tanned skin can appear dry, wrinkly and can suffer from premature aging. The sun can cause many unhealthy side effects, including burns, sun spots, moles and skin cancer. Self-tanning products may take a bit of practice to avoid mistakes, like orange spots where too much lotion has been used, but there are ways to correct these mistakes.

Step 1

Wait 24 hours for the sunless tanner to fade, if possible.

Step 2

Soak in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes to soften the skin and help shed dead cells.

Step 3

Shake baking soda onto areas where you want to remove the sunless tanner. Rub the baking soda in a circular motion to slough off the dead skin. This is especially helpful where the tanner has made skin look blotchy.

Step 4

Pour a small amount of alcohol-free toner or liquid makeup remover onto a cotton ball or pad. Apply the solution to any areas of unnatural color before bed. Sunless.com explains that this will fade the abnormal color by morning.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use a commercial body hair bleach product to remove seriously discolored skin. Follow the directions for the product and avoid the eye area.
