How Can I Rid Acne Scars Naturally?

Acne breakouts can leave behind unsightly skin discolorations that can remain on the skin for weeks, or even months, after the acne pustules have healed. Although many people live with these acne marks without attempting to diminish them, many natural substance can be applied to eliminate skin discolorations more quickly. Once the acne scars have been eliminated, the skin can return to its naturally balanced condition.

Step 1

Soften the acne scars by applying olive oil to the skin. Using oil on the skin will soften the dead, discolored skin and help it to be removed more easily. Olive oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog the pores, so it will not cause more acne. Pour 1 tbsp. of olive oil into the palms of your hands, and rub them together to spread it in the hands evenly. Spread the oil onto the skin, massaging it in using deep, circular motions. After two to three minutes, leave the olive oil on the skin to soak for an additional five minutes. While the oil is sitting on the skin, soak a washcloth in steaming water, and squeeze it out. Drape the washcloth over the face. Once the cloth cools, use it to wipe the oil away from the skin. Repeat twice per day to soften dead skin cells.

Step 2

Remove the scarred skin by applying a gentle and natural exfoliant, such as baking soda. Baking soda is composed of smooth, rounded particles that will remove dead skin cells without scraping or damaging the skin. Pour 2 tbsp. of baking soda into the palm of your hand, then drizzle in 1 tsp. of water to form a soft paste. Spread the paste onto the face, avoiding the eye area, and gently massage it in using small, circular movements with the fingers. After one minute, rinse off the paste with warm water. Repeat twice per week to remove acne scars and discolorations from the face.

Step 3

Rebuild skin cells using a toner high in vitamin C. Vitamin C supports new skin cell growth, which can help the skin become more evenly toned and balanced. One natural source of vitamin C is concentrated lemon juice, which can be applied to the skin full-strength. Soak five cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, then lay them onto the skin--one for the chin, one for each cheek and two for the forehead. After five minutes, remove the lemon-soaked cotton pads, and let the skin air dry. Repeat up to three times per day to rebuild skin cells.
