How to Live on Soup for Fast Weight Loss

While liquid diets are not meant to be followed for a long period of time, they can prove very effective when trying to jump start a weight loss program. Soup diets are more nutritious than other liquid diets, as soups can be complemented with proteins, vegetables and carbohydrates to make a filling meal.

Step 1

Make a large batch of basic broth. You can do it using store-bought bouillon cubes and adding fresh chopped vegetables of your choice. Let it simmer until the vegetables are tender. You can then store the broth in the refrigerator and use it throughout the day to make your meals or to drink as a snack.

Step 2

Skip the salt. You will be drinking the soup throughout the day and if it is too salty, you will end up consuming too much sodium. This can result in higher blood pressure and other health issues. Instead, season the soup using herbs and spices. If you're using bouillon cubes as a starter, these will already be salted and seasoned, so there's no need to add additional salt.

Step 3

Make your soups hearty. Add rice, potatoes and lean protein (such as chicken) to the broth for lunch and dinner. This will ensure you are eating enough calories and nutrients to keep you healthy and strong during the dieting period.

Step 4

Drink a cup of plain broth in the morning and mid-afternoon as a pick-me-up and to soothe hunger and cravings. Add green vegetables if you need something more filling, but avoid starchy vegetables such as corn and potatoes.

Step 5

Stay away from solid foods except the ones included in the soups and additional vegetables as needed, depending on your hunger level. Keep the soup diet plan for no longer than seven days and then start incorporating fruits, lean proteins and vegetables into the diet.
