How to Get Soft Skin

Dry, rough skin can look unattractive while also causing discomfort. To get soft skin, you need to change the way that you treat your skin. If your skin is drying out as a result of a rash or skin disorder, speak to your doctor. You may need a prescription treatment to soften the skin. When trying to soften your skin, avoid using oil-based products since they can cause breakouts.

Step 1

Bathe in lukewarm water. Although super hot baths and showers may feel great, they actually dry out the skin.

Step 2

Use an oil-free moisturizer. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to your face and body. Neutrogena and Clinique both produce lines of moisturizers that do not contain oil.

Step 3

Remove dead and dry skin with a body and facial scrub. A scrub exfoliates dead skin in order to soften your body. Massage the scrub into your skin for a minute or more before rinsing.

Step 4

Drink more water. Keeping your body properly hydrated will soften your skin. Aim to drink at least six full glasses of water per day. You can also stay hydrated by eating foods with a high water content, like celery, lettuce and watermelon.

Step 5

Steer clear of any harsh soaps or skin treatments. Instead, use gentle cleansers that are free of fragrance or chemicals.

Step 6

Make an appointment for a massage. Facials and full-body massages are treatments that can help soften the skin. These treatments work by boosting blood flow, which can help your body absorb moisture better.
