Eating healthy is not only important regarding the function of your body, but it also plays a vital role in the longevity and quality of your life. Unhealthy eating is the source of many health complications that could be avoided by paying more attention to what goes in your mouth.
Strength
Eating healthy foods such as vegetables, fruit or lean meats assures the body is supplied with enough nutrients and vitamins for strength. Lacking in calcium can result in bone loss, lead to osteoporosis and cause bones to fracture or break. Protein deficiencies affect how organs repair themselves, and can cause muscle depletion.
Function
If your heart has problems, the entire body will. Eating unhealthy foods can cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol and excessive weight gain. All put a strain on your heart and could lead to heart attack or stroke.
Physical Appearance
You are what you eat. Items such as junk food, fast food and excessive amounts of sugar or caffeine can wreak havoc on your appearance. Too much sugar can cause fat build up around the stomach area, creating the "beer gut" or the "pooch." Lacking vitamins can result in poor skin elasticity, wrinkles at an earlier age, thinning hair or even discoloration of skin.
Weight
Unhealthy eating can lead to excessive weight gain or weight loss. Starving your body can have negative effects such as hair loss or irregular menstrual cycles.
Mentality
Healthy food feeds your brain as well. Without enough nutrients and vitamins, you could experience problems such as memory loss, inability to concentrate or lose the inability to control your limbs.
