Libido, also known as "sex drive," is a trait that starts to develop in males and females around puberty. A normal libido is beneficial to a healthy and happy relationship or marriage. But when it starts to decrease, not only can it cause problems with your significant other, but it can also lead to stress and depression. To increase your libido, there are several steps you can take.
Step 1
Discuss your situation with your partner. Talk to each other about what you do and do not like about your sex life. Be honest and open to strengthen your emotional connection and to feel more intimate. Deploy the services of a sex therapist if you need help in taking this step.
Step 2
Reduce your stress levels by partaking in mind and body activities. Yoga, tai-chi, meditative breathing, muscle relaxation and guided imagery are examples of these. Psychological stress is a common cause of low libido, and these techniques can help put your mind at ease.
Step 3
Boost your libido and improve your self-image by partaking in exercise. Perform weight training or aerobic training, and do something that you enjoy, like running, walking, dancing, elliptical training or hiking. Involve your partner to make it more intimate.
Step 4
Make an appointment with your doctor to see if your testosterone levels are too low. Testosterone is a male-dominant hormone that is found in smaller amounts in women. If the levels are too low in either sex, this can have an effect on your libido.
Step 5
Consume foods that can boost your testosterone levels and increase your libido. Bananas, oysters, avocados, pumpkin seeds and garlic are examples of these.
Step 6
Spice up your sex life by being more risky. Have sex in positions that you have never tried, have sex in places you've never done it before and be spontaneous by having sex in the middle of the afternoon. Experiment with toys or carry out sexual fantasies with your partner if you are open to experimenting.
Step 7
Look into using an herbal supplement to increase blood flow to your sexual organs and boost your libido. Ginkgo biloba and yohimbe are two examples of these.
