1. Colorful Encounter

Colorful fruits and vegetables are super foods for the prevention of breast cancer. The more splashes of color on your plate, the more nutritious are the foods that you are eating. I would be looking for shades of blue or purple, yellow or orange, red or green, or the most serene white. Each of this colorful fruit or vegetable brings with them tons of disease-fighting phytochemicals and antioxidants. They also give fiber and fluid, which fills you up and help avoid indulging in more calories. Starting to eat lots of fruits and enjoying salads and other vegetables early on in life goes a long way in preventing breast cancer.

2. Making Smart Moves

Learning about fats (good and bad) and how much or how little to take them is the key for keeping calories in check. We do need, in moderation, good fat like olive or canola oil and fatty fish like salmon and nuts like walnuts. But the fats that come from doughnuts or French fries need to be seriously watched. This is not about depriving you of food pleasures; this is about just learning to make smarter food choices. Reading nutritional label is like being an analyst predicting longevity.

3. Size Matters

Controlling weight by learning what to eat and how much to eat needs to occur early on in our life. This helps prevent gain weight and become obese in later years. Portion control is the easiest way of controlling intake. Truly sizing portions for calories provides help and avoids overeating. Using salad plates for meals cuts down on portions consumed. Learning to use other avenues besides food for emotional ups and down also helps women control their intake. Being happy and giving you the "me time" to help reduce stress keeps the weight in check by altering the hormonal balance in your body.

4. Feet On the Go

Like action. Try out all different forms of exercising--walking, running, dancing, aerobics, lifting weights, gardening or even house cleaning. All these activities help you move and expend your energy. Exercises burn fat and reduce estrogen production in post-menopausal women and this helps in reducing the exposure of breast tissue to estrogen. This reduces the breast cancer risk in post-menopausal women. Exercise also helps you get "me time" and thereby reduces stress levels.

5. Desirable Drinks

Trust me, it is not alcohol. In fact, alcohol consumption truly increases your breast cancer risk. If you are not drinking now, do not start. If you do consume alcohol, limit it to no more than one drink. This seems to be a great risk factor for breast cancer. Instead try green tea, a potent immune-enhancing drink. Or try fruit juice cocktails and healthy vegetable juices to get one more serving of that food group in your diet plan. Water, of course, is the greatest drink of all.
