Botox is an injectable filler used as a way to smooth frown lines and furrow lines on the brow. Several small injections of Botox are administered directly into the muscles that are causing the lines to appear. It may take a few weeks for completed results to appear, and results can last for as long as four months.
Difficulty Breathing
One of the most serious side effects of Botox is that the injectable filler can make it difficult to breathe or swallow. This is because Botox weakens muscles and the effect can extend to the muscles used to help you breathe, speak and swallow. You may require a feeding tube if you are unable to swallow food after receiving Botox. This is a life-threatening side effect.
Botulism
It is possible for the toxin that is used within the Botox injection to spread to other parts of the body. This can lead to the person to develop a condition known as botulism. Symptoms of botulism include loss of muscle control, vision problems, loss of voice and loss of bladder control.
Allergic Reaction
According to the website RxList, there have been reports of spontaneous death occurring after receiving Botox injections from anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction and causes symptoms like difficulty breathing, rashes, dizziness and itching. This side effect is considered rare.
Pain
One of the most common side effects of Botox is that pain can occur at the injection site. Redness and swelling is another common side effect associated with injectable fillers. Pain around the eyes and other areas of the face can also occur. You may find it difficult to focus the eyes. The muscles can also feel weak at the spots where you have received the injections. After receiving Botox, a headache may develop.
