5 Things You Need to Know About Treating Female Hair Loss

1. Bald can be Beautiful

Relatively little difference exists between treating men and women's baldness problems. The main difference is that it is socially acceptable for men to go with the flow and let themselves go bald without any interference. While women may be seen more often in a naked head state, particularly those women recovering from chemotherapy after cancer treatment, it is still rare. Few women have the guts or the right face to get away with a bald style.

2. Creams Work Slowly

Only one topical cream is approved for use in the United States by the FDA. That is minoxidil, the main ingredient used in products such as Rogaine and its knock-offs. The drug opens blood vessels to improve the follicle health and is used mostly by men for thinning hair and male pattern baldness, usually on the top of the head or in front. A women's version is now available. Minoxidil may only be used topically, but it is still absorbed into the blood stream. If you have any reactions such as rash, dizziness or light-headedness when using a hair regrowth product, then stop using it and see a doctor. You need to wait up to six months before you see any results from using minoxidil on a daily basis.

3. Eat for Healthy Hair

Once you start noticing more hair in the tub after showering and get glimpses of you scalp in the mirror when styling your hair, you can begin to make some changes in your diet to slow down the hair loss. Essential fatty acids, such as those found in fish, are nutrients that feed hair growth. A diet rich in whole grains, polyunsaturated fats and vitamins and minerals, in other words a healthy diet for anyone, is the best treatment for hair loss as well.

4. Vitamins and Minerals

Women have a tendency to lose iron, a major building block for healthy hair. Iron is lost through menstrual bleeding and pregnancy. Anemia results and often goes undetected. Your hair loss could be the signal you need to increase your iron intake by eating more broccoli and adding brewer's yeast to your dose of supplements. Eggs, meat and poultry have a lot of vitamin B12, which is essential for good hair strength. If you can't get enough in your food, take a multivitamin that contains B12.

5. Wash it out

Hair care products can take their toll on your hair and cause it to fall out prematurely by constantly exposing your hair to harsh chemicals and invasive treatments. While the breakage and damage may be temporary and hair follicles can grow back if the body is healthy, you don't need to add to the problem by using anything but quality products on your sensitive skull.
