1. Crossover Sport
If you can ski and skate, then you can snowskate. It is a sport that takes place beside the skiers and snowboarders on the snowy slopes. Snowskating is a great crossover sport for people who enjoy inline skating in the summer months. You'll incorporate many of the same muscle groups and techniques. You just need to wear a whole lot more clothes.
2. Get the Equipment
Snowskates are basically boots with skis. The smooth curved skis are not much longer than the boot, giving you plenty of room to perform tricks and maneuver down the slopes. Snowskates are sold in pieces. You get the ski and the straps and attach them to your ski boots. Other than the small skis, the only other equipment you need is a warm coat, gloves and goggles.
3. Safety on Skates
Snowskating is a relatively safe sport, because you have much more control over your movements as the skis are so closely related to the size of your feet. You don't have to worry about holding the long skis straight while you fly down the hills, or getting them tangled and tripping you. There are no long poles to carry and impale yourself upon when you fall.
4. Train for Snowskating
Leg strength is the biggest requirement for enjoyable snowskating. You can develop strong skating legs by running and cycling. Leg lifts and power pushing in the gym can add power to your legs, while toning them for longer use. Crunches to strengthen the abs is important to help alleviate back injuries and to add to good posture which will help you keep your balance while skating.
5. Skate for Fun
Speed past all the skiers on the hills with your efficiency. It's much easier to weave and pass other skiers on snowskates. You can catch smaller hills to send you airborne and snatch up little gusts to get you flying. It's easier to get up when you fall, so you can take more chances with trick flips and turns. By kicking yourself to give you more speed, just like on wheeled skates, you can skate past shallow dips and make it to the snack bar quicker than your skiing counterparts. By not having to carry poles, your hands are free to lift a water bottle or snap pictures while you skate. Snowskates are very portable. You don't need a whole new vehicle just to accommodate all your skiing equipment.
