Fine lines around your eyes can give away your age. A proper eye cream with the right ingredients can smooth these unsightly lines and make you look younger. Employing other strategies, like protecting your skin from sun damage with sunscreen, avoiding processed foods, exercising on a consistent basis and staying away from cigarettes, will also prevent and reduce wrinkles.
Step 1
Choose an eye cream that contains retinol, antioxidants such as vitamin C and green tea extract. These ingredients promote collagen production to smooth wrinkles, according to an article in "Good Housekeeping" magazine called, "The No-Knife Eye Lift." The article recommended products like Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Gold Ultra Lift and Strengthening Eye Capsules because it is full of antioxidants. The Beauty Insiders website recommend 10 eye creams as "excellent" for reducing wrinkles, including Kinerase Under Eye Rescue, EyeLastin and TNS illuminating eye cream (see Resource below).
Step 2
Apply the eye cream delicately. Dab a small amount onto your fingertip. Apply the eye cream starting at the inner corner of your eye (by your nose) and working outward.
Step 3
Protect the skin around your eyes from the sun. Wear a hat and sunglasses. Apply a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 to protect your skin from UV radiation.
Step 4
Sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side or your stomach can scrunch the skin on your face, eventually leading to wrinkles.
Step 5
Exercise five days a week. Doing aerobic exercise increases blood circulation, which brings important nutrients and oxygen to your skin. Exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes at a time, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Physical activities that get your heart rate up and increase your breathing count as aerobic exercise. Swimming, walking, hiking, running, dancing, sports and even gardening will work to meet this goal. The best activities are the ones you will do consistently to keep your circulation going smoothly.
Step 6
Modify your diet to include eight to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Limit foods containing refined sugars or those that are processed, as the chemicals in these foods can be harmful to your skin. Also, drink 10 or more glasses of water daily to keep your skin hydrated, and consume foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon and flax seed (alternatively, drink 1 tbsp. each day of fish or flax seed oil to get your Omega 3s).
