As people age, skin components such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid break down or stop being produced in the dermis, the deep layer of the skin. As this happens, wrinkles appear on the face, neck and other parts of the body. Many people look for over-the-counter (OTC) remedies aimed at removing or reducing wrinkles, but sometimes it is difficult to determine the most-effective products in the crowd of anti-wrinkle creams on the market today.
StriVectin-SD
StriVectin-SD, manufactured by Klein-Becker, was voted the best anti-wrinkle cream in 2006 by readers of the French magazine "60 Million," even beating out anti-wrinkle products made in France. The magazine, without the knowledge of Klein-Becker, carried out the testing independently. StriVectin-SD contains a proprietary oligopeptide called "Pal-KTTKS," which was found in one clinical trial to reduce wrinkles about 1.5 times faster than products containing retinol, a popular anti-wrinkle ingredient.
Dermitage Anti-Aging System
The Dermitage Anti-Aging System, a product of Syndero Inc., is another science-based product that has done well in clinical trials. Its main active ingredient, glucosamine, was found to boost skin collagen by 166 percent and reduce wrinkles by 57 percent in a 12-week trial conducted by the company. It also contains patented microscopic spheres. These spheres help to start reducing wrinkles immediately. You do not have to wait weeks to see visible effects. The combination of long-term and short-term results makes Dermitage a wrinkle cream worth trying.
Olay Regenerist
For anti-wrinkle beauty on a budget, Olay Regenerist may be the best choice. "Consumer Reports" magazine found in January 2007 that Olay Regenerist was the best of the bunch, reducing wrinkles better than much more expensive products when tested over 12 weeks. Consumer Reports' reputation for independent testing makes its recommendation worthy of consideration. The price of Olay Regenerist, which sells for less than $20 in drugstores, makes it an appealing choice for budget-conscious beauty mavens.
Freeze 24-7
The anti-wrinkle cream Freeze 24-7, made by Freeze 24/7 International LLC in New York, N.Y., works by reducing wrinkles immediately upon application, so it is not a long-term solution. However, the instant results are dramatic. One trial, conducted by independent testing firm AMA Laboratories, was made at the request of the company and showed a 50 to 90 percent reduction in wrinkles within 10 minutes, so it is a good choice for instantly making the face wrinkle-free without having to wait weeks to see results. It has been featured in major magazines, including "In Style," "Reader's Digest" and "Cosmopolitan." Freeze 24-7 was given the "Most Valuable Product" beauty award by "Redbook" magazine.
