Protecting your skin from the darkening effects of the sun's rays is important if you have undergone any kind of skin therapy or if you have skin allergies. Skin darkening can also worsen skin discoloration such as age spots and acne scars. Going outdoors and being exposed to the sun's potent UV rays is something we cannot avoid. However, there are several steps you can take to protect your skin from darkening.
Step 1
Apply a sunscreen lotion with an sun protection factor (SPF) of 60 and above. Currently, the highest SPF on the market is Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100. Applying sunblock with a high SPF will protect your skin from darkening.
Step 2
Bring and use an umbrella or parasol to shield your body from the sun's rays. Using an umbrella is beneficial, especially if you plan on staying outdoors for an extended period.
Step 3
Protect your face from the sun by wearing a hat with a brim and sunglasses. When purchasing sunglasses, make sure they protect against UV light. Always look for glasses that have stickers that say UV protection.
Step 4
Purchase sun protective clothing. These specially made clothes can work like sunblock lotion and dispel the sun's UV rays. Wearing these clothes daily will help prevent skin darkening. You can purchase affordable, high-quality sun protective clothing at a sporting goods store.
