Foam rollers are an old-fashioned way to curl your hair, but they were used for decades because they were so effective and didn't take much time. Using foam rollers at night can help you wake up with perfectly formed curls, even if your hair is stick straight. If you want to try foam rollers in your hair, just grab a curl enhancing spray and roll them up while you watch television before you go to bed at night. In the morning, remove them, tousle and go.
Step 1
Choose the right size of rollers. The smaller your rollers, the tighter the curls will be. If you use larger rollers, you'll get bouncier, more naturally wavy curls. Smaller rollers are also best for short hair, as they are small enough to get the hair around several times for the best curls. You can also mix sizes for a naturally curly look with more depth.
Step 2
Towel your hair dry after shampooing and conditioning. Allow your hair to air dry so that it is slightly damp, and not soaking wet. Soaking hair will tighten as it dries, which could be painful or leave you with tighter curls than you want.
Step 3
Add a curl enhancing creme to your hair, and comb through to distribute. Comb your hair in sections, and clip the rest of the hair out of the way. The sections should be about two inches in width.
Step 4
Begin at the front and work your way to the back of the head. Unclasp the roller and slide it to the tip of the section of hair. Roll the hair around the roller all the way to the scalp, or as high as you want the curls to go. When you get to the top, flip the bar back down onto the foam roller and clasp it shut securely.
Step 5
Comb your hair out and away from your head when you do the sides of your hair, so that you get better vertical curls. Complete your entire head.
Step 6
Leave the curlers in overnight. In the morning, carefully remove them by unclasping the rollers unwinding them all the way to the bottom of the hair before removing. Tousle the hair with your fingers, but don't brush it--this will cause a frizzy mess. Set with a setting spray for hold all day long.
