When you're short on time or want a more natural look for your curls, curling your hair with a skinny straightener is a good choice. A skinny straightener gives you tighter curls than a large straightener, which may be better for those with shorter or finer hair. Curling your hair with a skinny straightener may seem tricky at first, but once you've mastered the motion, you can use your skinny straightener to create bouncy curls in less time than it takes to curl your hair with a traditional curling iron.
Step 1
Spray an even layer of heat protector over your dry hair. If you're beginning with damp hair, comb a mousse or spray gel through before you dry as usual, and then add the heat protecting spray to your dry hair.
Step 2
Turn the skinny straightener on to moderate to high heat. The higher heat you turn the dial to, the higher chance you have of damaging your hair.
Step 3
Section off a one- to two-inch section of hair, and clamp it lightly in the skinny straightener. Slide the straightener all the way to the top of the section, so that it is resting next to the roots. Make sure that you have the skinny straightener clamped lightly enough that you can easily move it around the hair.
Step 4
Twist the straightener around the strand of hair as you move down. This should be easier with a skinny straightener than it would be with a larger one. You may need to use two hands and pass it back and forth as you're twisting. Keep the hair firmly between the ceramic plates as you twist down the section of hair, until you get to the end.
Step 5
Spray the section with a setting spray before you move onto the next section. Complete the whole head in this manner, and finish with a final spritz of setting spray for a long lasting hold.
