Hair grows an average of six to eight inches a year. Natural, faster hair growth takes knowledge of what prevents hair growth as much as what fosters hair growth. Hair can grow faster because of changing patterns that stall hair growth. While there is no magic formula to make hair grow long overnight, there are plenty of natural ways to support healthy hair growth.
Diet
Many things can stall hair growth. For hair to grow at its naturally fastest rate, steer clear of unhealthy substances such as excessive caffeine, alcohol and nicotine. Refined junk foods also slow growth and contribute to dull and brittle hair.
Fluids
Fluids help to release built up toxins in the body that can hinder hair growth. Water consumption is important for fast and natural hair growth. Natural juices with no added sugar are good fluid sources that also contain necessary vitamin C for overall circulation to support hair growth.
Vitamins
Vitamin deficiency, especially iron deficiency, will cause hair loss. When trying to grow hair naturally, a multivitamin is the best option because it contains all of the B vitamins needed for healthy hair, sufficient amounts of iron to prevent deficiency and vitamin C for maximum iron absorption by the body.
Protein
Hair is made primarily of protein, so a protein rich diet can aid in optimum hair growth. Also, hair masks containing protein such as avocados, raw eggs or gelatin help to thicken hair and promote growth.
Hair Rinse
Apple cider vinegar can be used in combination with equal parts of water as a weekly hair rinse. Apple cider vinegar balances pH levels on the scalp, creating a healthy environment for hair to grow. Because of the acid content, apple cider vinegar also clears away any dead skin cells that potentially clog hair follicles and prevent maximum growth.
Breakage
The average person sheds about 100 hair strands per day. Improper hair care can increase this number disrupting the process of growing long hair. Brush your hair before bed. If your hair is tangled, do not start brushing at the root as this can cause breakage. Start brushing hair at the ends and work your way up in sections until all tangles are gone. Also, brush hair before you take a shower, and use a wide tooth comb while your hair is wet and before drying or wrapping your hair in a towel.
