At one time or another we have all suffered from a breakout. Sometimes the timing of a breakout couldn’t be worse and makeup becomes our savior in concealing acne. Applied correctly, it will cover your acne and make your skin look better. But if makeup is caked on, it will do nothing but magnify the acne that you are trying to conceal. If you are using products to treat your acne, you can use makeup to hide it in the meantime.
Step 1
Wash and thoroughly cleanse your face with an oil-free acne cleanser to remove the excess oil from your skin, and pat it dry with a towel. Apply a little oil-free moisturizer to your skin. The moisturizer will help your makeup glide on smoothly.
Step 2
Dust your face with a powder that has a hint of yellow in it. The slight tint in the powder will help reduce the shine and oil on your face. It will also help calm the appearance of any pink or red acne spots you may have.
Step 3
Apply a fairly thick coat of waterproof foundation, one that has staying power. Skin with acne is often broken at the surface, so cosmetics tend to slide off instead of “sticking” to the surface.
Step 4
Fold a tissue into a square and gently dab your face. You will remove the excess wax and oils from your skin, and some foundation, but the color pigment will remain on your face, providing coverage. If you’ve removed too much foundation, apply a little more and then dab with a tissue again.
Step 5
Apply concealer with clean fingertips. Don't use a brush, which may spread bacteria to other parts of your face. Gently dab and blend on areas where you have breakouts or acne scars; don’t rub, as this will irritate the area. Choose a concealer matching your skin tone. After application, lightly press with a tissue.
Step 6
Dust your face lightly using a translucent face powder to set your makeup.
Step 7
Accentuate your other features. If you have pretty eyes, highlight them by applying eye shadow and eye liner. If you have great lips, use a bold color of lipstick or gloss. Emphasizing your pretty features will take some focus off your blemished skin.
Tips and Warnings
- To make your skin appear velvety soft, make a past of baking soda and water, apply it to your face and then wash it off. Always use oil-free products.
