5 Things You Need to Know About Laser Breast Lift Results

1. Scarring

The scarring from a laser breast lift is the same as a routine breast lift. The laser lift is an addition to a regular breast lift, so there is no additional scarring. Scars from the procedure vary from mild to moderate depending on how much skin the doctor removes. The more sagging there is, the more skin he has to remove, and the bigger the scars are. The scars are most commonly around the areola and underneath the breast. The surgeon will discuss scarring and results during a pre-op appointment. If there are any concerns about scars or their placement, use this time to voice your concerns. To minimize scarring, follow all post-operation care instructions. Drink plenty of fluids, and call the physician with any questions or problems post-surgery, since complications, such as infection, lead to further scarring.

2. Last Longer

The laser-lift option enhances a regular breast lift. Studies show that the breast lift with the laser addition produces results that last longer. Keep in mind that no results are permanent, and gravity eventually has an effect on breasts. The internal bra created by excess tissue supports the breast and delays sagging. Often, doctors perform breast lifts in conjunction with breast reductions, breast augmentation or a combination. The limited studies performed show that in all cases, the laser breast lift addition lengthens the procedure's effective life.

3. Problems

There are risks associated with a laser breast lift. These risks are related to the routine breast-lift portion of the procedure. Since the laser breast lift uses the patient's own tissue, there is no risk of rejection. The most common surgical risks are infection, anesthesia intolerance or allergic reactions to the anesthesia, blood clotting and complications due to health problems. It is imperative to get a full physical examination and blood work done prior to considering any surgery, including breast-lift surgery. Complications from untreated health problems, such as cardiac issues or blood clotting problems, need to be addressed and reported to the surgeon.

4. Aesthetically Speaking

The results of breast-lift surgery are very rarely aesthetically perfect. Uneven breasts are common, post-surgery. Keep in mind that expecting perfection is expecting too much. However, post-surgery, large differences in size or deformity are not acceptable. Schedule an appointment with the surgeon to discuss the results and to remedy the issue. Additional work is possible, and whether or not the surgeon charges for the work is at his discretion.

5. Help!

If you are not happy with your results, you have options. First, always give the doctor a chance to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. Allow him to rectify his mistake and take the appropriate steps to fix the issue. If he is unable to satisfactorily address the problem, the next steps are necessary. First, get legal advice. Second, report the doctor to the medical board so that they can review the issue. Because surgery is a risky choice, and there are few alternatives if something doesn't turn out right, carefully consider this before going under the knife.
