5 Things You Need to Know About Cross Training Equipment

1. Consider all Your Options for Cross Training

Cross training by far offers the most effective way of giving the body the total workout that it needs, firing every muscle group, heart action and respiratory function while providing a healthy internal operation. If you choose to participate in a number of different sports that provide different kinds of workouts, then you'll need to have the rackets, balls and bikes, as well as the various shoes, for each sport. If you plan to build a home gym, you can furnish it with many types of cross training equipment.

2. The All-in-one Operation

Big machines such as the Bowflex cross trainer or other large pieces of equipment will require more room in a home gym. While you can work most of the muscles with a large all-in-one machine, and adjust the levels to give your heart and lungs a good workout, you will probably want to add other weights, benches or movable equipment to complete your cross training workout room.

3. Row to Fitness

An elliptical machine or adjustable rowing machine is one of the best choices of cross training that you can get to build your gym. Free weights, barbells and a weight bench can give you the added equipment needed to round out the daily regimen. Other floor equipment pieces such as a mat, exercise ball and rolling wheels can be easily stored and used in a cross training routine.

4. Mix up Your Workout

Look for cross training equipment with variable adjustments. To avoid plateaus and to spice up your daily workout, put your treadmill on an incline or loosen the tension in your stationary bike or elliptical machine so that you race instead pace yourself. The boredom factor appears after about six to eight weeks into a routine, and you must avoid it to stay on track. Mix up your gym workouts with at least one outside activity or sport. Join a team that will expect you for games and practices to add commitment to your list of priorities.

5. Save Money for Treats and Rewards

Because of the relatively little electronic and technical requirements of cross-trainers, it's a great commodity to look for in used sports equipment shops, in the classifieds and online. Before buying, use the equipment for a couple of minutes just to make sure it does what it's supposed to do. If one machine or piece of equipment doesn't turn you on after a while, then you can resell it yourself and try something else without having made a huge investment.
