These side effects include dizziness; drowsiness; digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting, upset stomach or diarrhea; loss of coordination or balance; and insomnia. You may also suffer from a stuffy nose, blurred vision, headaches, weight loss and strange dreams.

During clinical trials of Lamictal, according to eMedTV.com, 5 to 20 percent of patients experienced additional side effects still deemed common. They include sore throat, abdominal pain, tremors, back pain, flu-like symptoms such as fever and body aches, painful menstrual cramps, dry mouth, cough and bronchitis.

Call Your Doctor

Lamictal may cause some side effects that warrant an immediate phone call to your doctor. These include any kind of skin rash, fever, sore throat or headaches. Also notify your physician if you experience a red rash that is blistering and peeling, pale skin accompanied by bruising or bleeding easily, chest pain, and any type of muscle pain or weakness accompanied by darkened urine. Look out for signs of liver damage: yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, clay-colored stools, loss of appetite, stomach pain and a low-grade fever.

Allergic Reaction and Overdose

Lamictal may pose a life-threatening situation if either you suffer either an allergic reaction or overdose from it. Both require immediate medical attention; therefore it is imperative to recognize signs.
An allergic reaction may cause inexplicable swelling of your lips, face, mouth and throat, which can result in wheezing or difficulty breathing. You may also develop hives or a skin rash, both of which can cause itching.
An overdose of Lamictal may cause blurred vision, an increase in seizure activity, fainting, severe coordination problems and light-headedness.
