How to Improve Sagging Skin on the Face

The face is an area of the body that is hard to ignore. It shows up in pictures, you look at someone's face when you talk to them and it can be seen in the mirror when you are fixing your hair. As you age, the muscles in your face tend to become weaker and the skin's elasticity deteriorates. This can in turn lead to sagging skin. If you are victimized by this non-life threatening condition, there are several steps you can take to help improve it.

Step 1

Protect your face from the sun which can cause damage to your skin and exacerbate the sagging. Use a sunblock, wear wide brimmed hats to shade your face and keep exposure to a minimum between 10 am and 3 pm.

Step 2

Give up the bad habits that can contribute to sagging skin. Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking can disrupt the collagen and elastin in your skin. These are substances that make it elastic and taut.

Step 3

Stimulate the collagen and elastin in your skin with a laser skin tightening treatment. In this procedure, the collagen and elastin particles get heated and then shrink. New collagen and elastin are then formed and the skin becomes tighter leading to less sagging.

Step 4

Perform a face exercise to strengthen your facial muscles. Look straight ahead and place three fingers from each hand on your cheeks. Apply downward pressure as you make a big smile. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds and release. Take a few breaths and repeat ten to twelve times. Do three to four sets and repeat two to three times a day.

Step 5

Deploy the services of a cosmetic surgeon to get a facelift surgery. In this procedure, the surgeon will make an incision around the hair line, removing underlying excess fat and tightening facial muscles. The skin is then pulled taut, trimmed off and sown at the location of the incision.
