Shapely and well groomed eyebrows can accentuate your eyes, opening the eye area and creating a beautiful appearance. Over the years, fashion trends have swayed from bushy eyebrows, to those that are pencil thin. When tweezing your eyebrows, it is best to try to maintain their natural shape without excessive alteration. Overly tweezed eyebrows may not grow back over time, leaving you with eyebrows you don't like years down the road. Tweezing is simple to do and with a little practice, can be mastered in no time.
Step 1
Select the eyebrow hairs you would like to tweeze by using your brow pencil to draw around your eyebrows, making it easy to know which hairs should be tweezed. Avoid altering the brows too much. Work with the shape and arch to clean up the brow areas instead of completely reconfiguring them. To determine where your brows should start and stop, hold your eyebrow pencil vertically beside your nose, touching your nostril. Your eyebrow should start at the point that the pencil touches your brow bone. Tweezing any hairs beyond the pencil eliminates the dreaded "uni-brow." Next, lay the pencil in a diagonal line with one end touching your nostril and the other touching the outside corner of your eye. The point where the pencil meets your brow bone is where your eyebrow should stop. You can use your brow pencil to mark both of these spots so you know where to tweeze.
Step 2
Hold a hot towel over your brow area for two to three minutes. This will help open your pores and make tweezing easier and a little less painful. If your tap water is not hot enough, you can place a wet towel in the microwave for thirty seconds, just be sure not to burn yourself.
Step 3
Pluck your eyebrows using a magnifying mirror to allow you to see each individual hair. Tweeze one hair at a time, going slowly to make sure you don't over pluck. Use a toothbrush or eyebrow brush to brush your eyebrows up to help you to see the base of the hairs, making it easier to tweeze. Pluck any hairs that are outside of the line you previously drew, or outside of the marks you made which established the starting and stopping points of your eyebrows. Pluck any stray hairs above your brows, but do not over tweeze this area; doing so will change the shape of your natural arch leading to an unnatural appearance.
Tips and Warnings
- After plucking, the skin around your eyebrows will be red for one to two hours. Keep this in mind if you're going out; it's probably best to tweeze your eyebrows at night before you go to bed.
