We all know exercise is integral to weight loss, but when faced with a fully loaded gym and minimal time, where do you begin? A good exercise program lays out specific movement and diet guidelines to help you lose weight. An exercise program should include the three elements integral to any fitness program--aerobic or cardiovascular training, strength training and flexibility.

Body for Life

Fitness guru Bill Philips, the author of "Body for Life," prescribes a minimum of 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise three times per week and 45 minutes of strength training three times per week. “Body for Life” gives comprehensive exercises to follow. The diet asks that you adhere to proper portion sizes and consume up to six nutritionally balanced mini-meals per day.

P90X

The P90X workout program consists of 12 DVDs providing rigorous weight training, cardiovascular and yoga exercise routines. The concept behind P90X training is muscle confusion--basically offering your body constant challenge by changing your routine and movement patterns. The P90X also includes a 13-week nutrition program to help you build lean muscle mass and lose fat.

The Five Factor Diet

Developed by Hollywood fitness trainer Harley Pasternak, "The Five Factor Diet" is an extensive book and online program that outlines principles for healthy exercise and nutrition to bring about weight loss. Pasternak asks the user to work out five times per week for a manageable 25 minutes at a time. The five principles for fat loss that he promotes are: increasing metabolism through exercise and proper nutrition, staying in the fat burning zone during cardio exercise and building lean muscle through strength training, consuming the right amount and type of calories, and eating low glycemic index foods to maintain stable blood-sugar levels.

The Biggest Loser Club

Stemming from the popular reality television show "The Biggest Loser," this online subscription program recommends participation in strength and cardiovascular exercise daily. Training tips for form and proper exercise execution are included. Although the program is challenging, it can bring about results. The diet plan consists of three meals per day, plus snacks, focusing on grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.
