If you're ready to get rid of unwanted body hair, you have several different options for doing so. Deciding which hair removal supplies will give you the results you want depends on where the hair is located, how much you want to remove and what feels most comfortable to you.
Razor
An old-fashioned razor is the classic method of getting rid of body hair, and according to "Consumer Reports" magazine, it remains the method that people are most comfortable with using. Razors work well to remove hair from larger areas, such as the legs or face, and shaving only wet skin in the direction that hair grows can help minimize cuts and irritation.
Electric Shavers
Like razors, electric shavers work well to remove hair from places where you tend to grow a lot of hair, such as your legs and face. Some people prefer electric shavers to traditional razors because the risk of getting cut is minimized when you are using an electric shaver.
Depilatories
Depilatories, which can come in gel, lotion, cream or aerosol form, dissolve hair by changing its protein structure. The hair turns into a jellylike substance that can be wiped away with a cloth. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends doing a spot check for allergic reactions before using a depilatory, since some people do experience mild to severe irritation to some depilatories. The FDA also recommends depilatory use on the face, especially in the eye area, be avoided.
Tweezers
Tweezers are used to remove single hairs, so they're best for cleaning up stray hairs in areas like the eyebrow line, the face, the breasts or other spots where you might have a few random hairs. Using them to remove large patches of hair would be time-consuming. Tweezers come in a range of sizes.
Wax
Waxing is a popular way to remove hair, especially from the legs and bikini area but also for the eyebrows and other parts of the body. Liquid wax is applied to the area with unwanted hair and allowed to cool. When it has hardened, the wax is pulled up, and the unwanted hair comes with it. The FDA recommends that people who have diabetes or circulation problems not use wax for hair removal and that wax not be applied over any area with irritated skin, varicose veins, moles or other skin problems.
