The fastest way to grow your hair is to increase the circulation of blood to your scalp to nourish and stimulate your hair follicles. There is no magic way to make your hair grow from chin length to waist length in mere days, but you can do several things to increase the circulation to your scalp. Massaging your scalp, hanging upside down, brushing your hair and using essential oils are all ways to improve blood flow to your head.
Step 1
Brush your hair every morning. Use a boar bristle brush with a wooden handle if possible, as recommended by long-hair guru Dr. George Michael. Dr. Michael's clients have included supermodel Giselle Bundchen and singer Crystal Gayle. Bend forward at the waist and flip your head over. Brush down from the base of your neck with one hand and follow the brush with your open hand to reduce static.
Step 2
Hang off the side of your bed a couple times a day so gravity can help the blood flow better to your scalp. Do some headstands or use an inversion table for a few minutes at a time to increase circulation as well. Stop if you experience any discomfort or vertigo. Having your head below your heart will make it harder for your heart to pump blood to your legs, which will increase your blood pressure, according to an ABC News article called "Hanging Upside Down, David Blaine Risks Health."
Step 3
Add two drops of rosemary or mint oil to your shampoo. Rosemary and mint have been linked increasing circulation and hair growth, says Dr. Nicole Sundene in her article "How to Grow Hair Super Fast." Do not use the oil directly on the scalp though.
Step 4
Take your time when applying shampoo and conditioner. Massaging your shampoo into your hair will increase blood flow, as will any scalp massage, and result in a cleaner wash. Try shampoo with tea tree oil to stimulate the scalp. Dr. Sundene recommends purchasing shampoo free of sodium lauryl sulfate, which irritates the skin.
Tips and Warnings
- Dr. Sundene also says to eat 1 to 3 tbsp. of freshly ground flax seed oil and take a multivitamin every day, but not to overdose on the selenium. Keep the selenium intake below 1,000 mcg because more can cause weight loss. Dr. Sundene says to shampoo every other day, but you can use your conditioner daily. Frequent shampooing strips your hair of essential oils.
