How to Use an Acne Extractor

Blackheads and whiteheads are a common skin problem in teens and young adults. Some older adults seem to suffer from this ailment as well, supplying a need for safe effective removal. Blackheads are made up of your skin's natural oils, mixed with dead skin cells. They're commonly removed by beauticians using an extractor. Doctors advise against squeezing these bumps, but you can use a professional extractor at home.

Step 1

Place a warm, moist cloth over your face or allow your face to come in contact with steam from the shower or other hot water source. Boil some water on the stove and transfer it to a heat-proof bowl. Place the bowl on a table and cover your head with a towel. Lean your face over the bowl allowing the steam to hit your face for at least 10 minutes. This will open the pores, making extraction easier.

Step 2

Blot your face dry with a clean towel and gently place the rounded opening of the extractor around the blackhead or whitehead.

Step 3

Apply a small and even amount of pressure until the pimple or blackhead releases the pus and core.

Step 4

Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser containing salicylic acid to wash away remaining dirt and bacteria.

Step 5

Apply a light moisturizer containing alpha hydroxy acids. Alpha hydroxy acids act as a natural exfoliant and antibacterial, preventing reclogging of the pores.
