Acne (acne vulgaris) affects millions of individuals worldwide. It is a common problem especially among adolescents. Acne generally appears on the face, back and chest. These areas of your body have the densest numbers of sebaceous glands. When these glands become infected or overstimulated, acne develops. Acne can be caused by medications, bacteria and blockage of skin pores. You can treat acne using potent chemical creams you can purchase at the drugstore. However, these products can irritate your skin and cause swelling. Fortunately, there are natural methods you can try, such as turmeric. This potent spice contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Mix 8 tbsp. of turmeric powder and 5 tbsp. of sesame or olive oil in a clean, dry bowl. Stir well until the turmeric mixture turns into a creamy paste.
Take a hot shower to help soften your skin and open the pores. Use a gentle moisturizing bar to help moisturize your skin. Avoid using harsh antimicrobial soap when applying turmeric. It can cause your skin to become too dry.
Apply the turmeric mixture one hour before going to bed. Massage the mixture into the affected areas for about 10 minutes and let dry overnight. The turmeric mixture will reduce the size of the acne. You will start to see effects in about three or four days after using it every day.
Take a shower to remove the turmeric paste in the morning. You will notice that your skin will have a yellow tinge from the turmeric. This is temporary and will go away in about a week. However, you can instantly remove it by using a facial toner. Soak a cotton ball with facial toner and gently wipe your skin to remove the traces of turmeric.
