There are several causes for bags that appear under a person's eyes. It could be from exhaustion, fluid retention or the natural aging process. Baggy eyes can also be the sign of medical conditions such as thyroid diseases and allergies. Treating the underlying cause usually gets rid of baggy eyes. If you continue to have baggy eyes after attempting to treat them at home, contact your doctor to discuss the condition.
Step 1
Aim for more sleep each evening. Ideally, get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night.
Step 2
Add more vitamin C to your diet. As you age, your body experiences a natural loss of collagen, which can lead to baggy eyes. Eating more vitamin C-rich foods like oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, tomatoes and broccoli can help with collagen production. Consider taking a vitamin C supplement if you don't get enough from food sources.
Step 3
Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can cause the body to retain water, and swelling can occur around the eyes as a result. Make sure you drink at least six to eight glasses of water each day. Reduce the amount of salt in your diet to avoid retaining water.
Step 4
Massage around the eyes. Apply a small amount of massage oil to your fingertips and massage around the eyes. This can improve blood flow to the area and help relieve the puffiness.
Step 5
Place cold cucumbers on your eyes. Slices of cucumber have long been used to naturally relieve baggy eyes. Leave the cucumbers on for 10-minute intervals at least twice a day.
