Enlarged pores can be a cosmetic concern for some people. Trying to hide this condition with make up will only emphasize the size and the makeup will settle into the pores. This condition is caused by increased oil production, which stretches the pores and can cause swelling and acne. Activities such as waxing and tweezing can also enlarge pores the longer you do them. Large pores can be present in oily or dry skin and are completely treatable.
Step 1
Wash and moisturize your face in the morning and before bed. Use a good exfoliating wash and a daily moisturizer with alpha hydroxy acids. If you wear makeup, make sure that you remove all makeup each night. Makeup can make your pores look larger and lead to increased breakouts if they're not removed.
Step 2
Apply tomato juice or fresh tomato to your face. Tomatoes contain vitamin C and amino acids that are excellent in reducing pore size and helping to dry up excess oil on the skin. Apply the tomato juice with a cotton ball and allow to sit for two to five minutes. Wash off with a gentle cleanser and blot your face dry with a clean towel.
Step 3
Brew herbs into a tea and drink nightly. Herbs such as yarrow, sage and horsetail may help reduce pore size. Brew the herb in water and strain, add 1 tsp. of honey and sip the tea to relax yourself and tighten pores.
Step 4
Drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Your skin requires proper hydration to minimize pores and clear the skin of excess oils and toxins.
Step 5
Consult your physician about laser treatments. Laser procedures can reduce pore size by drying up oil production and aiding in the removal of built up dirt and bacteria.
