Frizzy hair is generally caused by genetics or a lack of moisture. When the hair cuticle doesn't lie flat, it makes the hair shaft more absorbent, allowing moisture to seep into the hair shaft, beneath the outer layer, and expand. The result is hair that stands out---or frizzes. To prevent frizz, smooth the layers to give the whole head of hair a smoother appearance. As the moisturized cuticles lie flat, the hair will have a healthier, shinier appearance. You can tame the frizz by keeping it moisturized and avoiding over-drying it.
Washing
Don't wash your hair too often. You don't need to wash it more than two or three times per week under most conditions. When you wash it, use hydrating shampoo with moisturizing ingredients such as aloe vera, panthenol and vitamin E. Don't overdo the shampoo, concentrating most of it at the scalp area. Rinse well.
Conditioning
After each shampoo, use a rinse-out conditioner, this time concentrating on the ends of the hair. Leave it in the hair for at least a minute to allow the hair shafts to absorb enough for hydration, then rinse the excess. Once a week, deep condition the hair with a store product or a homemade product that you leave in for at least half an hour. A good deep conditioner is to combine 1 egg with 2 tbsp. of olive oil. Whisk until well blended and apply directly to your hair. To increase the absorption, wear a plastic shower cap. After 30 minutes, wash your hair with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
Blow Drying
Allow your hair to partially air-dry. Too much hot air from most blow dryers will make your problem worse. Once the hair is partially dry, use a warm setting and be gentle as you move the dryer over your hair. Don't hold the nozzle on one section too long or too close to the head. Angle the dryer so the air moves in the direction of the hair growth. This will help flatten the cuticles on the hair shafts.
Additional Tips
Avoid using a brush because it may snap some of the strands, which creates split ends. If you wake up in the morning with "bed head," moisten the hair by squirting it with water from a spray bottle. When your hair is wet, don't rub it briskly with a towel because it will cause the outer layer of the hair to stand up and create more frizz. After blow drying your hair with warm air, switch it to a cool setting to relax the frizz. Limit your use of all heat appliances because overuse will damage your hair.
