1. Dance in Your PJs With the Kids
Although the term bunny hop now means different things, especially to BMX riders who turned it into one of their tricks, the more common way to do the bunny hop is by learning the fad dance created back in the 50s. Clear some space on your living room floor by moving the kids' toys, blocks and other assorted sharp, injurious items out of the way. Get into some comfortable clothes, such as your pajamas, put on the original bunny hop album and start your practice. First, take your right foot and step to the side two times. Then take it to the left two times. Hop forward, and then hop back. Finish it off with three hops and that's it, you did the bunny hop! Now repeat these steps for each verse of the song and make sure the kids are following along. This dance is so simple, almost anyone can do it, so take the opportunity to get your kids involved for some family fun. You might get some great cardio exercise out of the deal and a memorable time will be had by all.
2. Join Your Local Oldies Dance Group
If you are ready to get serious about it, you can do the bunny hop with your local oldies dance group. Many cities have organized groups or clubs that are available for you to join. Many ethnic clubs also host oldies dance events. Usually the fee is small to participate, $10 or less, and most of the time the proceeds go to benefit a great cause. Search community posting boards or ask your local ethnic club leadership. You are sure to find groups and dances in your city, but if you don't, ask your local church if they will host an oldies dance. If all else fails, organize one yourself. Make a few phone calls, advertise in your local community calendar or put a notice in your church bulletin.
3. Get Rich Clique at the Club
Another way to do the bunny hop is to get down with the latest dance craze by Get Rich Clique. Do The Bunny Hop is a new song by a rap group that gives an old favorite a new beat, but as you might expect, the lyrics are not G rated. If you like hanging out at nightclubs, you might want to give this one a try. However, if that just isn't your thing, keep it real in your PJs at home.
