Hair is grown into many different styles for those that have good growing potential. However, when your hair starts to thin out, the options start to disappear. Although thinning hair can take its toll on self-confidence, luckily it does not cause any physical harm. There are several common signs that indicate your hair is thinning.
Step 1
Look straight into a mirror. Pay attention to the sides of your temples on your hairline. If they are receding up and your hair is forming an "M" shape, then you are thinning.
Step 2
Grab a hand-held mirror and stand with your back to a large mirror. Hold the small mirror in front of your face and slightly to the side. Inspect the top of your head for thin hair and flesh color. This is a sign that your hair is thinning.
Step 3
Investigate all the areas where your head stays in one place for a while such as your pillow, hats, your car seat and your jacket. Look for strands of hair lying around. If you find excessive amounts, you could be thinning.
Step 4
Inspect the tub and sink drain for clumps of hair. Look on a daily basis immediately after you take a shower and wash your hair.
Step 5
Make a comparison. Look at photos of yourself from years past and compare them to how you look now. Pay special attention to your hair and check to see if it has gotten thinner.
Step 6
Go through your comb or brush and inspect it for more than usual amounts of hair accumulation.
Step 7
Look at the head of your parents, uncles and grandparents. Hair loss that is hereditary can be caused from a gene by one of your relatives. If you notice they are thinning, then you can be as well.
