How to Increase the Male Libido

It's a natural process for men to see their sex drive lessen as they get older. Testosterone levels in the body decrease, and men whose physiques give way to more fat see an increase in estrogen levels. But most men wish it weren't that way. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to increase your libido. This is done mostly by alleviating your body of the stresses that hamper a sex drive and giving yourself the fuel to make your libido's work easier.

Step 1

Eat foods that boost your libido by giving it the tools needed to stimulate hormones and synthesize testosterone. Celery is high in androsterone, which helps stimulate male hormones. Raw oysters are also well-known as an aphrodisiac that stimulates sperm and testosterone production. Other good foods to promote your sex drive include bananas, avocados and nuts.

Step 2

Minimize your stress. Stress is one of the primary causes of a reduced sex drive. Take up a meditation practice, engage in yoga or just make sure to de-stress properly after a long week of work-induced stress.

Step 3

Discuss your lacking sex drive with your partner. Be open and honest about your inhibitions and what you think the problem might be. Sometimes talking is its own therapy and can help remedy some of your libido troubles.

Step 4

Exercise three to five times a week. Exercise helps promote the production of testosterone, and helps shed fat. This will lead to a reduction of estrogen, a female hormone that can inhibit your sex drive.

Step 5

Take an herbal supplement. Some, such as ginseng and L-arginine, have been proven to spark your libido and make noticeable changes to your sex drive.

Step 6

Talk to your doctor about whether a sexual stimulant, such as Viagra, might be the best option for you. As you age, it will become tougher to maintain the same testosterone levels that have benefited your libido in the past, but modern medications can offer solutions where lifestyle changes fail.
