1. Liquid Calories
Soda is one of the restricted foods on the Best of Life Diet. Studies show that people who have soft drinks every day do not restrict calories somewhere else. Children especially suffer from excess weight gain by drinking soda pop instead of water or milk. Fructose, the main sweetener in soft drinks, may affect the metabolism by encouraging fat storage. Studies on mice show that the natural hormones that control weight gain do not respond to fructose as they do to natural glucose. Diet soft drinks are also one of the foods to avoid on the Best of Life Diet.
2. Trans Fat Beware
Avoid specific foods on the Best of Life Diet that contain trans fats. Margarine and other imitation butter spreads contain 2.1 gm of trans fat per tablespoon. Shortening has 4.2 gm per tablespoon. Cake mixes and Bisquick have a large amount of trans fat. Soups and instant noodles and several frozen foods often contain trans fat. Watch out for baked goods, cookies and cakes as well as donuts and cream filled cookies. Fast food that they deep-fry in hydrogenated oil is high in trans fat.
3. Fried Foes
Fried fare is one of the foods to restrict on the Best of Life Diet. Besides having a high amount of trans fats, they typically bread fried foods in white flour. The calorie content is higher and contains virtually no nutritional benefit. People who eat fried foods are also less likely to reach for fruits and vegetables. French fries, onion rings, fried chicken and calamari are some examples of foods on the best of life diet-restricted list.
4. White Bread White Pasta
Don't eat bread and pasta made with white flour on the Best of Life Diet. There is no nutritional advantage as compared with whole wheat, whole grain bread and pasta. The fiber content in alternative pastas and bread is better for weight loss and digestive health. You should also avoid pastries and rice made with white flour.
5. Diet Dangerous Dairy
The Best of Life Diet recommends eating nonfat or low-fat dairy products. Experiment also with alternative sources of dairy such as soy products. High fat dairy found in cream, ice cream, whole milk and cream cheese cause weight gain. You should reserve these foods for special occasions.
