If you're camping, you overslept, or you don't feel like washing your hair, using dry shampoo can help prevent hair from looking greasy or oily. Dry shampoo is available at drugstores and beauty supply stores but can be made at home for a fraction of the price. Mix a batch of dry shampoo for hair emergencies and leave it in the medicine cabinet.

Step 1

Place 1 cup oatmeal in a clean coffee grinder.

Step 2

Grind the oatmeal until it's the consistency of a fine powder.

Step 3

Combine the ground oatmeal with 1 cup baking soda in a bowl. Mix it thoroughly with a spoon.

Step 4

Sprinkle the powder into hair, paying specific attention to the roots. Leave the mixture in the hair for several minutes.

Step 5

Shake the mixture out of your hair and brush through to remove any excess powder. Repeat as necessary throughout the day.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you don't have baking soda, use cornmeal.
