How to Reduce Wrinkles

Reducing and eliminating wrinkles is a goal that most people over 30 share. Whether you are talking about fine lines around the eyes or deeper marks lining the face, there are numerous things that you can do to make the skin appear younger. While preventive things like protecting yourself from the sun are essential, there is also much you can do after the wrinkles have shown up.

Step 1

Sleep more. According to dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, MD., when you are deprived of sleep, your body produces more cortisone, which breaks down cells and can lead to the skin looking older. Sleeping on your back is the best position, as your skin is not touching the pillow and sleep lines and marks are less likely to form.

Step 2

Improve your diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables, which are high in antioxidants, essential to keeping the skin younger. On the other hand, think about reducing intake of caffeine, which robs the skin of moisture and makes wrinkles more obvious.

Step 3

Use a cleanser instead of soap. Soap can rob your skin of its natural oils, making it drier and more prone to apparent wrinkles. Also, keep the skin moisturized at all times. When you go out to the sun, use products with built-in sunscreen to further protect the skin.

Step 4

Look for wrinkle creams that contain Retinol, Hydroxy acids or Coenzyme Q10. They can help stimulate collagen production, repair sun damage and remove dead skin. For thin lines, you can find creams containing these ingredients at any pharmacy. For deeper lines, talk to your dermatologist about stronger creams, such as Retin A.

Step 5

Consider more invasive treatments if you want better results faster. Botox, wrinkle fillers such as Restylane, laser resurfacing and chemical peels can all eliminate wrinkles. These treatments require the help of a professional and may require several visits for a total cost of several hundred dollars. Some can cause redness, irritation and other side effects.
