A healthy diet helps keep your reproductive system functioning properly. Eating nutritious foods also regulates hormone levels in your body, which keeps your menstrual cycle on track. Women with a diet very low in foods containing antioxidants have a lower fertility rate. Eat healthy fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, strawberries and leafy dark lettuce.
2. Ideal Weight Is Ideal for Fertility
Being too thin and having too low a percentage of body fat can hurt your chances of getting pregnant. It can cause abnormal hormone levels and prevent ovulation from occurring. On the other extreme, being overweight can also decrease female fertility and cause irregular periods, which makes tracking ovulation more difficult. Talk to your doctor about healthy weight-loss options, and start an exercise program. Keep in mind that exercising to extremes also negatively impacts fertility. Some studies have shown caffeine decreases fertility in women. Even a small amount of caffeine such as is in one cup of coffee per day can decrease your chances of becoming pregnant. Consider giving up both coffee and caffeinated beverages such as colas. Smoking is also a bad idea if you are trying to get pregnant since it also decreases female fertility. It's well-known that alcohol during pregnancy is bad for your unborn baby. You should also avoid drinking alcohol while trying to conceive, since it lowers fertility.
5. Herbs--Nature's Fertility Boast
People have used herbs for centuries to increase fertility. Certain herbs such as chasteberry are believed to stimulate the gland that produces estrogen and progesterone in women. Other herbs such as dong quai are thought to improve problems with the menstrual cycle and help balance hormone levels in the body. Keep in mind that herbs are not regulated like medication. Talk to your doctor to be sure it's safe for you to take while trying to conceive.
