Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of caring for a new mom and a baby, the dad can be forgotten. Having a baby can be a stressful time for a father, as he adjusts to his new role. Even a seasoned dad, whether he have small children or adult children, becomes stressed from the day-to-day rigors of taking care of children, worrying about their well-being and being a provider for them. Show dad your appreciation by giving him a gift to reduce his stress level.
Round of Golf
The father in your life might like to unwind on the golf course, while at the gym or shooting darts with the boys. Take that into consideration when you offer him an afternoon of relaxation. Give him a gift card or arrange for a tee time to his favorite golf course. Take care of all of the details; babysitting the children and rounding up a group of friends to join him. He'll love to get away and recharge with his friends.
Electronic Planner
A dad's stress level may be in part to his busy schedule and inability to plan and remember engagements. Giving him an electronic or paper planner where he can see his appointments, kid's sporting events and carpooling at a glance may help him feel more organized, less stressed and more in control of his busy lifestyle.
Wine or Scotch
Some father's like to unwind once the children have gone to bed with their favorite type of alcohol. Choosing a fine bottle of wine that you know he'll love, or an aged scotch that he'll appreciate can give him a way to relax at the end of the day. If you don't know what his drink of choice is, watch what he orders next time you're at a restaurant or bar. A six-pack of beer can even be thoughtful and relaxing if it is his drink of choice.
Navigation System
It's an old sentiment that most men don't like asking for directions. However, getting lost, especially with the kids or when late for a meeting or appointment can cause plenty of stress in a dad's life. Purchase a navigation system to take into his car with him. He can program his location and destination, and see maps or listen to turn by turn directions that help get him where he needs to go, stress-free.
Day Off
Sometimes, a dad just needs a day to do anything he wants, no strings or responsibilities attached. That is why simply showing up at his house on a Saturday morning for him to go out and not return for a few hours can be the best gift he could want. He can use the time to do anything--catch up on work, sleep or see a ball game, without having to worry about responsibilities for one day. It is a good way to help him relax and recharge.
